Satyr

Light music hung in the air of the dark woods, slowly escaping from the tip of a pipe. Moonlight danced on the silvery leaves of the trees, cascading the land in a white glow. Beneath her full roundness, dancing figures filled the forest floor. Hooves stomped on dead lives, springing life beneath each touch.

Flowers blossomed in the moonlight, rejoicing at the influence of fertility that sprung into the earth. Trees shuddered, branches squeaking with new growth. The dancers formed a circle as they turned and spun to the tune of the pipes. Mushrooms sprouted at their feet. Various animals hung in branches and hid in long grasses to watch the merriment that overtook the woods.

I watched their joyful displays whilst their songs called in spring. Whatever snow had been had long melted and left behind the rugged brown sleeping earth. The wild beings danced and sang, played their pipes, and summoned lust and life into the night. Winter was gone and the green world was being reborn.

My eyes wandered over their naked dancing forms from the shadows. A cloak hung around my body, helping my easy blend in the darkness just outside the fire’s glow. It had been ages since I had seen the dance of the wild things and even longer since i had dared come close to one.

“You’re making very dangerous choices, girl.”

I didn’t turn. The voice was thick and rumbling, with a musical note to it that any human would be seduced by. A sense of danger came with each word that brought a smile to my face. “Oh? Is that so?”

He spoke behind me, close enough I wondered if he was nearly pressed against me. “Have you not heard of how dangerous we are?”

“Oh, I have heard the stories. Of engorgement and fleeing women.”

A low chuckle rumbled out of him. “Ah yes. The eternal chase of my kind and the mortal world.”

“Is your veracity or their shyness that leads to such unsatisfying events?”

“What makes you think they are not satisfying?”

“If you were satisfied, you would not continue to the hunt.”

“And you think the hunt is not satisfying?”

“I’ve seen them. They rarely end in … completion.”

“Not all things must end in climax to be worthy.”

“Fair,” I turned, letting my eyes fall on the satyr’s horns and smiled at this own delicious grin. “Yet I hear it is ever the plight of you. To be always seeking and never wanted.”

His smile faltered, a moment of sorrow before it returned in full force, hiding any pain behind it that had momentarily been revealed. “It is my nature to hunt. And my base desire to hear the cries as they flee.”

I took a step forward into the deeper shadows so that the distance between us was minimal. “Can I touch you? Or must I run first?”

A curt nod was I all received. My hand moved in the shadows, touching his bare chest and caressing the hard muscle. Digits trailed downward, caressing the sensitive flesh of his stomach before touching the delicate bits of fur that began to sprout from the skin. I let my fingers play with the long strands of rough hair along his inner thigh, slowly moving closer to where I knew his hardness waited and yet deliberately caressing everywhere around it.

The satyr let out a groan, head falling back before he grunted. “You’re a tease, witch.”

I smirked. “I thought you wanted to build the anticipation.”

Hips bucked, pushing up towards me with quiet want. I pulled my hand away and he whimpered. Dark eyes opened to stare at me, a hardness and need deep within. “Please,” he finally asked, lips parting in the soft word of need.

My smile showed in the dark, hand moving upward to wrap around the thick animalistic length. He gasped, back pressing against a tree for stability. The hand fell still, simply holding, watching him respond to the first touch of delight he had felt that was not the result of a cruel chase and forced embrace.

“More. Please, more.”

I began to stroke, moving my grip lower and then back up. Each movement brought a grunt from him, hips moving in rhymical strokes to match my pace. His hands rose, gripping my hips beneath the cloak that concealed my body, pulling me forward.

“Now now,” I murmured, stopping the stroke.

“Forgive me,” he whimpered, hands falling away to rest at his sides. “Whatever you wish.”

“Whatever I wish?” I asked, brows raising.

“Name it. I will do as you wish.”

“Do not release until I tell you.”

I lowered myself to my knees before him, glancing up at the satyr’s wild features before letting my tongue touch the base of his length. Fur and warmth greeted me, as did his jerking hips at the sudden contact. My tongue trailed upwards, leaving behind the fur to hard thickness. He groaned, hips moving forward as I swallowed the head of him in my mouth, surrounding his flesh with warmth.

My head bobbed in the darkness, mouth taking all of him and then none, up and down as he thrust forward. The soft grunts turned to wild cries as my tongue and mouth explored, pulling into a steady rhythm. He leaned back against the tree, hands moving overhead to let fingers dig into the bark as he gasped and writhed.

I paused. “Remember. Do not release.”

The satyr groaned and whimpered, biting his bottom lip. “Yes,” he mumbled in response, swearing immediately after as I took him into my mouth and further, letting him fill my throat. I held there, throat tightening around him until I gagged.

“You’re cruel. Please. Please.”

I continued, ignoring his pleas as I moved up and down on his length, letting him fill my throat with each stroke. Drool slid down my chin and dripped onto my breasts, then trickled downward to my thighs. Each stroke made him harder, pulling him to an impossible rigidity I had not felt before in any creature.

The satyr cried out, hands touching my head to try to pull me back but not daring to interrupt. “I can’t,” he breathed finally, tears nearly touching his eyes before I finally stopped.

Simultaneous relief and agony came from his lips in a muffled groan as he bit his lip, turning his head away. “Gods you are a cruel woman.”

I stood, unfastening the cloak and letting it fall to the forest floor. In the shadows the moonlight bathed my skin in a silvery white glow. My tongue teased his lips before drawing him into a hungry kiss. He met me with passion and need, pressing against my naked body. Our tongues danced together, teeth biting lips and claws digging into skin and fur.

He grabbed my shoulders and turned me, pressing me against the tree so that the bark bit into my skin. I held to his shoulders and pulled my legs up, holding around his hips before he gripped his length and pressed the tip against my center. Brown eyes looked into mine, scanning for what he needed more than anything.

A smirk touched my lips and the satyr whimpered, both of us panting as we breathed, catching our breath between the passionate kissing. “Ask me,” I said, command and need heavy in my throat.

His jaw set, teeth gritting. “Please?”

I leaned my head forward, meeting his lips in a soft kiss. “Fuck me.”

It was instant pleasure as the satyr pounded into me, thick and hard in ways no mortal could be. I cried out, fingers pulling on the long curls of hair that hung from his head, teeth biting his bottom lip to show him the pleasure he was giving me.

The bark scratched my back as the creature thrust in, practiced and hungry. I bounced against him, bodies moving in unison, cries mingling together into the night, drowning out the laughter and pan music from the nearby merriment. Each thrust went deeper, expanding me to make room for his stiffness until I was stretched and accepting of every overtly long inch.

Slapping wet sounds came from where our hips met. Rough long minutes passed, extending into nearly an hour as we rutted against the tree of the woodland. Rolling waves of pleasure overtook my body, each thrust becoming part of the ongoing ecstasy that swelled within. I felt him harden more, pulsing within me as we neared an edge that threatened to consume us.

My nails dug into the skin of his shoulder, drawing blood. His teeth grabbed my bottom lip before swallowing me in his kiss. Pressure mounted within me and spilled over, just as he erupted within. Seed flowed from his length, yet his thrusting didn’t stop, only slowed. Our moans crescendoed and began to quiet, bodies moving together in a gentle rhythm as we rode out the waves of pleasure that flooded us both.

The satyr pulled from our kiss, looking into my eyes as his hips moved, softly drawing another moan from me. “I’m sorry I didn’t wait until you said…”

I smiled. “Get on your knees and I’ll forgive you.”

A wicked grin spread over his lips as he slid from me and lowered himself, mouth exploring the wet landscape of my thighs and center. I grabbed his horns, holding him against my skin while my moans began again, mingling with the nearby music of pan’s pipes and creating a new harmony from the bliss of my lover’s mouth.

Visitor

Gravel crunched underfoot at the mouth of the old mine. The moon hung low in the sky, casting enough light to see the shadows of the trees and the lingering remnants of an age gone by. The mine was abandoned, long since left to die. Yet a strange presence remained, filling the small clearing with a sense of forbidden danger.

The village nearby was small and forgotten, just as lonely as the mine that had once been the lifeblood that flowed through its streets. Each rumored visitation has pushed the village further from a place to visit into a place meant to be forsaken until the word for the village had been forgotten and the humans there dwelled in fear and stagnation.

The mine had not dried up; coal still waited to be found and pulled forward out of the earth’s womb. Superstitious fear kept it empty. Abandoned picks and carts sat just inside the mouth, scattered about in a final moment of desperation. I touched the mouth of the cave, feeling the smooth stone beneath my fingers, and wondered at just what would drive the humans from these hills.

A shadow flickered in the dark, moving from tree to tree. Branches quaked beneath the beast, body hidden in the night as I turned to stare at where I had seen the shadow move. The light of the moon illuminated the dense trees, yet in the pitch, it was nearly impossible to see distinct shapes.

Tree branches entangled and leaves entwined, leaving behind mass shadows from the edge of the woods. The hills seemed alive with the white light bathing them, but no sound of nature stirred. More branches cackled in the dark as something leaped from one tree to another, the sound of leather in the wind as its wings beat to hold it aloft.

I stepped forward, dumbly moving towards the sound rather than away. Whatever it was paused, silence returning to the air. I waited, watching the trees shiver and then hold absolutely still. It was easy to imagine the humans here, running frightened back into the mine, never to be seen again. Each sound of leaves touching would send chills down a grown human’s spine, let alone superstitious ones who feared the unknown.

Minutes passed and I turned, looking back to the mouth of the cave. It loomed in the dark, aged and unimportant except to whatever lived within its gulch. Before I could take one step forward, light erupted from the trees, bold and brilliant in the night. It was white and pink, pale and sparking with energy as it shot out of the trees and over my body.

My body froze, suddenly immobilized in the eerie light. It brightened the clearing so that I could finally see the being whose large head gave birth to the illumination. The light came from its horn, large and protruding, from the leathery skinned face of the alien. It was vaguely battish, huge wings helping suspend it from thick branches. Clawed feet clung to the tree. A thick ring of fur lined the base of its neck and down the body but left the dark wings exposed.

It stared at me with bright milky eyes, no pupils or irises. The light didn’t fade as it crawled over the tree, branches swaying beneath its weight before it jumped from the boughs and landed with a heavy thud upon the ground. Claw tipped wings were used as front legs as it slowly ambled towards me, circling around my frozen body in quiet appraisal.

I tried to speak, but my lips wouldn’t move. All I could do was watch as it neared, leaning back on its haunches once it came near enough to touch. Its expression was impossible to read, the mouth and eyes familiar and yet foreign in its face. It seemed to see me, into me, and beyond me all in one glance.

A shiver rose up my spine while its gaze pierced me. The light grew warmer, or so cold taht it burned, and my body shuddered in its heat. The clothing that covered my body began to flake away, as ash in a fire and yet without flame. Each moment that passed brought further disintegration to the fabric, the beam’s light slowly eating all that stood between my skin and the creature’s presence.

The head moved forward, bringing a new intensity to the light as it did. A gasp barely pushed past my lips when it pressed its open mouth against my shoulder and dragged its teeth up against my neck. A rolling tongue like appendage flicked outward, fat and thick, exploring the flesh. I wondered briefly if this is what had happened to the miners, the being’s ravenous curiosity overcoming them.

Teeth and tongue roamed my skin, tasting and prodding with every passing moment. The intense heat of the light grew, sending waves of intensity through my body. It pulsed though the beam remained constant, pouring from an engorged horn in the center of its face. The head bent and the horn touched me, sending vibrating light through me instead of on me.

It pierced deeply, sending my mind and body reeling with sensations and heat. I heard myself moan though saw nothing around me. My mind raced with a thousand memories of wonder and lust, revelations of identity and knowledge, of viewing the growth of humanity with each passing century. Each touch and caress, kiss and thrust, reverberated through me at once.

I would have sworn that something was within me, throbbing and thrusting, pushing my body forward as it climbed a mountain of pleasure that it knew each handhold and pathway to. I rode the waves as a stallion on the beach, the wet delight of seaspray becoming the sweat that beaded on my body and slid down between my breasts to my slick opening.

No longer could I feel the mouth or teeth, nothing but the pulsing light that hummed within. It unraveled each moment of pleasure I had felt, leaving me a trembling speck of light in a galaxy of knowledge and truth. A hundred moans and cries of pleasure echoed in mine, in the feeling of expansion within and the pounding of my heart that thrust into my erogenous lust with each passing moment.

The visitor trembled beside and inside me, witnessing each moment I had ever felt true and whole. It subsumed the humanity and beauty of the lustful hunger that coursed through my veins, leaving me as naked and vulnerable as any lover would. The heat intensified, peeling away the layers of my physicality until nothing was left but the raw energy of need that crawled through me, spreading ecstasy with each cell it touched.

I became a being of light. The world was nothing but a pinprick of moments and thoughts, far and away, hidden behind my burning body that illuminated the woods and slid through the mines, feeling the lives of those who had been lost to the visitor’s remaking. It pushed into every part of me, on a level that only my blood would understand, intrinsic and integrated.

Perhaps my hands moved or perhaps I only imagined it, but something touched me… or inside of me… into the light they called a soul and whispered dozens of words of tantalizing hunger. We shuddered together, hands and mouths and devil’s wings exploring and enveloping until the light dimmed and there was nothing but the pulsing waves of rapture that encircled us both.

The sound of my gasping breath awoke me from the terrifying and beautiful entity’s caress. The moon had sunk low and vanished, leaving the golden beams of the sun’s light to streak across the dawn sky. Great footprints, three toed and strange, sat in the earth around my naked body, a sheen of sweat and lust covering my flesh.

It was gone, a discovery of who I was within it and revealed to me. My hands grasped a breast and sat in the wetness between my thighs, yet the pleasure they could offer was nothing compared to all that had happened in the moonlight between a strange visitor and myself.

Tarasque

The water moved swiftly, pulling the odd boat with its current and tugging on the weeds below the surface. Sunlight glittered on the flowing surface, giving a sense of peace to the river. Though once it had been a thoroughfare from town to town, it now sat silent. A solid mud trail led from the nearest village towards the water. It stopped far away, far enough that whatever they feared was in the water couldn’t reach them.

A broken boat sat on the bank. Its wooden planks had been shattered by something with fierce teeth and jaws. There were no remains of whoever had owned the boat. I approached slowly, walking through the morning mist. The footprints I followed went towards the boat and river then vanished, somehow likely lost to the steep water.

I approached the shore, squatting down to look at the muddy prints. My fingertips brushed the edge to check how dry they were. They were still wet meaning their owner hadn’t been here too long ago. My head tilted as I turned my eyes to the boat, standing to walk around it and flip it over so it was right side up.

Great claw and teeth marks were in what intact wood remained. There was no blood, but the small fishing boat had clearly been destroyed. My eyes glanced at the running water, bubbles coming to the surface now and then in mocking mystery of what lied within the depths. I sighed and glanced around, knowing the water held the truth.

Despite knowing I needed to enter the water, I tarried, leaning against the side of the boat while watching the surface. A large bubble rose up, bigger than anything that would come out of a human’s mouth and popped on the surface. I pulled a piece of wood from the shattered remains of the boat and tossed it into the water.

It floated where the bubble had been for a brief moment before the water erupted in a flurry of motion. Teeth gnashed the wood, splintering it into a thousand pieces as a mighty creature rose to the surface, twice the length of a horse and with a great shell that covered its back. Long jagged teeth glinted in the sunlight, claws dug into the shore, and frightening red eyes turned towards me set in a large draconic and feline head.

“Easy,” I said softly, raising my hands to show they were empty.

The beast thrashed its tail and many legs, stirring the water and sending mud flying. Its teeth gnashed against the wood, small splinters falling onto the water only to disappear downriver as they floated away. It hoisted its body towards the edge of the river closer to me, feet digging into the mud to pull its frame upward.

I couldn’t step back. The broken boat pressed against my calves, as immovable as a wall despite its shattered size. Water slid down the monster’s carapace in a cascading effect as it rose fully out of the water, all eight legs scrambling to pull itself onto the shore. Its long neck moved the head forward until it lowered down to glare at me, a long serpentine tongue flicking out to taste the air.

My eyes stared into the monster’s, noting the massive girth of the creature. It seemed frenzied, and its head struck out towards me. I barely had time to slip out of the way, sliding to the ground in the mud to duck beneath the head. It grabbed onto the old boat and pulled it upward, breaking the rest of the pieces as though it were paper easy to tear.

I rolled and looked up at it, mud streaking my pants and cloak. “I’m not going to hurt you!” I called, staying low to try to show I wasn’t there to harm it.

It tilted its head, pausing at the sound of my voice. As soon as I stopped speaking, the beast crawled forward again, closing the gap between us.

“You’re alright. You’re safe,” I murmured, pulling myself to my knees. “Nothing here will harm you.”

Each time I spoke, it paused, stopping so that the water quieted and it could properly hear my voice. Once I stopped, it regained its rage and began to walk closer.

I took in a shaky breath. “I’ll sing you a song then, master of the river. Would you like that? I’m no great singer but I think it would calm your anger to hear someone sing for you. You must be lonely, here, by yourself… these villagers daring to find ways to harm you and terrorize you.”

With each word the beast stilled and calmed, tail slowly lashing back and forth in the water until it was a soft and gentle movement. I stood, humming softly an old tune I had not thought of for a time. The words whispered past my lips, soft and nearly quiet, forcing the creature to hold still to be able to hear me over the sound of its own splashing in the stream.

“Captain Jack was a young man when he went to sea

All the young ladies go and kiss him goodbye

He was barely a child of twenty and three

Oh, tell him, young ladies, go and tell him for me

He can marry the mermaid that lives in the sea.”

My hands touched the wide snout of the beast as I sang. The giant red eyes watched me, its body trembling with eagerness I had not noticed. The claws dug into the earth and it heaved itself forward, pushing its head against my stomach and knocking me to the ground while cuddling into my skin. A long tongue lapped at my face and neck, tasting my lips and flesh while I continued the song, refusing to end it for fear the beast’s anger would return.

One great paw of many rose, pressing into the mud beside me and creating a thick soupy ground. The tongue flicked over my clothes and retreated, offended by the strange material that tasted nothing like what my face had. Teeth sunk into the fabric and it pulled, a foot pushing down on me so that the clothing tore, biting into my skin.

Its weight pushed me into the mud, coating me in the thick brown filth. I turned, rolling so that I faced down, ready to be able to push up and run if I needed to. My singing paused as I turned, catching my breath. The claws bit into the skin of my thigh, holding me down as the trembling returned and a low growl echoed behind me.

Now I love Captain Jack and his bride I would be

All the young ladies go and kiss him goodbye

We were soon to be wedded, my Jacky and me.

Oh, tell him, young ladies, go and tell him for me

He can marry the mermaid that lives in the sea.

Each lyrical utterance from my lips brought a growling murmuring from the creature that clambered atop me, body pressing me down into the earth beneath it. It shuddered, rubbing against me with a bulging thick length that pressed against my backside and slid upwards. The claws of all eight legs dug deep into the earth as it cried out, a strange gurgling hissing noise that spoke of excitement and sudden eagerness.

I lifted up, climbing onto my hands and knees, only slipping sometimes as the beast shuddered around me. Its massive length pressed against my opening, a hardened bit of flesh that would penetrate too far if it didn’t remain under the spell of my song. I sang louder, raising my voice to match the discordant growling sounds escaping the beast.

The giant body swung back and then pushed forward again, the wide tip of its length sliding over my bare skin and getting smeared with mud. I turned to glance behind me, seeing the gaping mouth of the wide appendage that crawled of its own accord, sliding down my backside to the flesh between my thighs.

A new gurgling noise erupted as the mouth of its length opened and closed again, pushing the thick opening against my flesh and contracting so it slid inwards. Even contracted, it was large and invasive. Rather than thrusting forward, the length slowly crawled inward, expanding and shrinking as it explored within me.

My song faltered for a moment as a strange moan escaped me, a mixture of the unfamiliar and deep pleasure as it pushed further within. The silence of my throat brought a quiet to the beast who waited a moment before slamming forward, grinding me into the mud and pushing itself as far in as it could reach.

I cried out, my scream half pleasure and pain, as it thrust upward and filled me beyond my capacity, causing my stomach and pelvis to bulge outward with each penetrative plunge. My moans didn’t calm the creature. I tried to remember the song, lost in the throws of the creature’s lust as it rode atop me, driving me deeper and deeper into the mud with each powerful ram.

Its gurgling cries began again, vicious and hungry as it balanced on the edge of the river and claimed my body. I began to sing again, voice shaken and husky with lust. Each word brought the creature to heightened pleasure, a quivering tremble in its body betraying its enjoyment.

“But his ship it had need of a captain one day

All the young ladies go and kiss him goodbye

He took charge of the rigging and soon sailed away.

Oh, tell him, young ladies, go and tell him for me

He can marry the mermaid that lives in the sea.

When three years had passed and his ship had returned

All the young ladies go and kiss him goodbye

I went down to the sea for the man I had earned.

Oh, tell him, young ladies, go and tell him for me

He can marry the mermaid that lives in the sea.

The song carried out over the river and through the creature’s mind. As my song continued, its rhythm picked up to match the merry beat of the song. We grunted and groaned between lyrics, my body shuddering from the size of its hammering length. The song grew higher pitched, mingling with the sounds of my pleasure as the creature drove itself harder, until I was in a mud hole, covered in thick black muck, from the power of its strokes.

Its body shuddered and quivered as I finished the verse and I felt it twitch and spasm within. Thick ropey release spilled into me, coating my insides with its seed. It held still, pinning me there as it slowly released all it had been carrying until it began to ooze out of me and combine with the muck I was laying in.

Then just as suddenly as it erupted from the water, the tarasque slid away and out of me, returning to the wet environment that it lived in. I laid in the groove in the puddle of its release and mud, panting as the song finished in the air.

“But my Jack was not there when I went to see

All the young ladies go and kiss him goodbye

And this is the tale the crew told to me.”

But before we stuff our stockings, wrap our presents, and prepare for a very happy solstice, we're giving a sneak preview of the Anthology exclusive story, the Swamp...

So tuck in, monster fuckers, and let your mind run wild with the vine filled world of the Swamp!

Laughter touched the air as we walked out of the town towards the muddy road that led through the swamplands. The sun warmed everything, making the stench stronger as we explored the wood-planked road. Now and then we paused, stopping to look at the estranged flowers we had never seen before or touch a tree whose exposed roots housed amphibians below the water.

I paused in the walk where a path led off from the plank road and into the swamp. No footprints showed, yet the path seemed clear. Further down a branch was broken and mud hanging off of a tree.

Raumi turned, looking back at me. “Have you found something?”

“I don’t know.” I stepped onto the small path and walked to the tree, touching its broken limb and examining the mud. “Didn't one of those villagers say it was made of mud?”

Further up the path, a large splash resounded. Raumi caught up with me, standing at my back as we both looked ahead. A low, unsettling rumble that could have been a growl followed the splash. I shifted and moved around the tree, being careful not to step in the water that encroached the tiny walkway.

“Didn’t one of them say it had scales?” Raumi murmured to me as I kept going, pausing only when another large splash broke the quiet. He touched my shoulder and nodded towards where the water moved beneath the sagging vines atop a tree.

Within the water something stirred, sending large ripples as it moved beneath the surface. The green water revealed nothing amongst the floating algae and lily pads. Frogs jumped as it cut the water near their resting places, making small splashes as they landed. Along the water’s edge various animal and human prints lay, all of them coming to the water’s edge where great claw marks ran in the mud.

I tilted my head to look at Raumi as the water stilled. We glanced at each other before I began to walk towards the claw marks, taking care not to fall into the water. As I knelt, fingers touching the long gouges, Raumi pulled a dead stick from the ground and flicked the end in the water, creating a series of splashing noises.

A grunting growl came from the water as whatever haunted its depths moved quickly, tail flicking on the water’s surface. Olive scales and rides betrayed the creature’s nature. I raised a brow and gingerly backed away from the water as it stilled once more, ripples stopping a few inches away from Raumi’s stick.

“I don’t know that it’s an actual monster, Raumi,” I murmured, taking another step back. My foot landed on something thick and ropey. I shifted, glancing down in time to see a great vine lift and slide away from my foot. “Shit.”

“What?” he asked, turning his eyes away from the water to look at me.

I turned, glancing at the great vines and human sized flowers that covered an ancient tree. The green limbs came to life, one instantly wrapping around my leg. I blinked and held still, hoping my lack of resistance would calm the plant. A strange, pungent odor filled the air as it lifted me and pulled me towards the flower’s open fuschia petals.

The water erupted as a creature lunged at Raumi, great jaws snapping in a distinctive nearly wooden sound. “Watch o-” I tried to call only to be jerked to the side, body pressed into an open flower. It began to close, lowering petal soft jaws around me as I glanced towards Raumi.

He was on the ground, covered in mud. A humanoid alligator wrestled with him, their scaly arms entangled. The two grunted, inhuman sounds coming from both. The creature's jaw bit down onto Raumi’s shoulder and the sound of teeth scratching on stone filled the air.

A strange, sweet smell filled my senses as the plant encircled me, vines pushing me inside only to slither out as the flower closed. I whimpered, feeling drowsiness settle in my eyes as the smell intensified. Warm darkness slowly enclosed me. The sound of fighting grew more distant, turning into a dull hum in the background. I pushed my hands against the flower’s inside, only to feel it close faster until I was swallowed entirely.

Within its entrapment, it was warm and humid. I began to sweat as the heat swelled. Lifting a hand, I caressed the inside of the flower and leaned my head back against its speckled green and pink surface.

“I won’t hurt you,” I murmured sleepily. My hand shifted along its insides, stroking the petals softly.

One petal trembled, pushing inward to meet my fingers. I inhaled shallow breaths to stay awake, trying to avoid drinking in the pollen it was feeding me. Slowly I calmed myself and turned my head, planting a soft kiss on the vegetation’s fibrous flesh. It shivered, quaking softly.

My hand pulled back as I stared in slight surprise. As I touched it again, stroking the inside of the petal softly, a new fragrance hit the air. It was sweet and tempting, almost delicious in its way. A sense of joy and tenderness spread through me. My hands both worked, stroking the plant from within.

The scent caused my muscles to relax and chased the fear from my body. A shiver ran down my spine from the sensation of the petals pressing inward against me as I stroked them. I hummed an old song, singing to the flower that held me captive. Its body quaked and pressed tight against me, causing a soft moan to escape at the pressure.

Light broke through the petals as long green vines slunk in as a snake would. They were thick and ropy, made of multiple small vines wrapped together. I shifted, glancing down to them as one slowly wrapped around my ankle while the other pushed up my pant sleeve and crept along the skin of my leg before wrapping firmly around my thigh...

Mermaid

The party raged on until the wee hours of the morning. They laughed and jeered, told stories of the rubes, voices a rough melody on exhausted air. Just moments before they had begun their nightly frivolity, their home had been invaded by the starving masses who saw them as freaks, creatures to be stared at, fetishized, and when convenient, murdered.

I sat amongst them, sipping the moonshine they handed out. Greasy food had sat on plates for a glimmering few minutes before it disappeared, devoured by the workers of the small carnival. We ate as stories were shared. They spoke of who had been fated that night. The woman who had been unconvinced about the strong man’s ability and how he proved her wrong. The child who saw the lord in the mentalist’s vision. The human who fell in love with the snake dancer.

Every night was the same. They moved to a new home, set it up, and tore it down once the show was over. It had taken me months to find them, following behind dust trails and broken dreams. Whispers of what was here had run down the road and passed from drunken lips to eager ear, over and over until I sat and heard the story, eyes just a little wide.

My eyes moved over each of the people at the tables. They were many things, but none of them were unnatural. And while I didn’t believe in monsters, they weren’t what the average person would’ve called monstrous. Even all the hate in the world wouldn’t convince a mortal that another human was a creature of darkness. That took glamors or tricks.

This place was full of both. From the manager to the tear down crew, each human here had enough slight of hands to make my head spin. Every second is an opportunity, a potential deal that could be struck. Even better, an idiot to swindle.

Laughter spilled through the night as the magician finished her joke. Not a glimmer of magic showed around her, but her ability to draw the eye and move unseen was phenomenal. I waited until heads were down, mouths open in bright laughter before I slipped from where I was sitting to walk the grounds alone.

Muddy pathways ran between the tents, once grassy just a day before. I held the tin cup in my hand, sipping the booze between moments of quiet reflection. Their conversation and laughter still echoed about the closed down fairgrounds. A few workers stirred in tents, getting ready for sleep.

It was just an hour or two before dawn. The time when people who worked the show would finally fall asleep. Lights were extinguished, just a few illuminated tents remained. I walked until I hit the final tent on the path, the one that the rubes would walk into last, and walk out pale and frightened.

The tent was blue, with white bubbles painted over the canvas. A messy hand painted sign hung above in fabric, the creature from the sea in bright teal letters. I sucked in a breath and then pulled open the tent flap, stepping into the low light of a lantern.

Blue light bounced around the tent, glittering from where the lantern’s glow hit the great tank. It was large, but not as large as I had thought it would be. Metal, wood, and glass poorly bound together. The sides were greenish, algae coating the inside of the glass. Bits of fish and blood floated on the water.

I sucked in a breath, grimacing at the smell of rot that floated out of the tank. It was on wheels, with a giant rope lashed to the end. I fingered the thread. There was nothing magical about it. I supposed the strongman carried the tank, used as a beast of burden when it suited the carnival. The cord fell back to the wet ground and I gazed into the murky water.

Between the debris and the perilously dirty water, it was impossible to see the creature within. I raised a tentative hand before touching the glass. It was cold, sending a chill through my body. I shivered involuntarily, as though the confinement of what was inside was translated through that caress.

From the swirling turquoise a face appeared, eyes black as a shark’s. We stared at each other through the misty water. Her hand came out of the grime, fingers touching the glass where mine were, scaled and long, with a greenish blue skin that glimmered pearlescent in the low light. Her face was flat, eyes terrifyingly empty, lips teal.

A smile spread over her face, displaying pointed sharp teeth. My brows rose in surprise. Her fingers slid upward, then crept higher until she was headed towards the top of the tank. I followed her up, then stood back, watching as she broke the surface.

Ebony hair flowed down her back, glimmering like an oil stain. Blue and green streaks caught the light, beautiful and alluring even plastered and wet against her shoulders. Gills graced her neck below the ear, opening and closing as she tried to acclimate to the air.

“Welcome,” she purred finally, voice wet. “What brings you to me so late?”

I tilted my head. “I’m looking for you.”

Her smile was stunning and terrifying. “Of course you are.”

My eyes glanced at the blood and bits of flesh in the water. Some of it was fish. Some of it wasn’t.

“Come here.” Her long fingers gestured to me, beckoning me forward.

“How’d you end up here?”

Brows raised and she shrugged, a beautiful movement that made the water ripple around her. I sucked in a breath, feeling the allure of her before I could stop myself. “You’re very curious.”

“It’s been said.”

“I fled the sea for a man I loved.”

“Did he love you back?”

She shrugged again. “Do they ever?”

A pain touched my heart. “I’m sorry.”

The mermaid laughed, twitching in the water so that her tail flicked the surface. It was a momentary view of her magnificence. “Don’t be. You’re not here for a story.”

“I am, though. I’ve seen your kind before. But never like this.”

She smirked. “Why don’t you come closer, hm? Come inside.” Her head nodded, chin nodding towards a step ladder to the right.

“So you can eat me?”

Her grin made me flush. “I know my way around a woman’s body.”

“That’s not what I meant.”

“Isn’t it? I’ve seen how you look at me.”

“You’re very beautiful.”

“Come see how beautiful I am…”

“Is that what you want?” My tone shifted to serious, the playfulness dropping. I looked at her eyes and took a step forward.

“So serious. Is that how you are with everyone?”

“When I’m asking what they want. Yes.”

The smirking lips straightened. “Then yes. That is what I want. And I promise you to only eat you if ask.” Her sharp teeth showed again.

I shrugged and pulled my dirty dress over my head, letting it puddle on the filthy ground. My boots sat beside it. Mud squished between my toes with every step I took until I climbed the wooden stairs to the top of her tank. Fingers touched the wood and metal, the same beautiful sensation of her powers flooded through me.

Heat rose within, stoking the flame she had already ignited. The mermaid disappeared beneath the water and then appeared before me, hands reaching out to caress my fingers and slid up to my wrists. Her skin was scaly and rough, yet held a hint of slime from the fetid water clung to her.

“Are you sure?” I asked one last time, looking from her hair in the water to her eyes.

“Get in the tank if you want to see.”

I pursed my lips to hide my smile and moved, letting my feet rest within the water. It was as slimy as she was, with bits of floating waste that clung to my skin and toes. A shudder went through me as the water went over my calves and thighs. The tank was deep enough I couldn’t touch the bottom without going under.

We floated, her watching me grapple the disgusting water.

“Doesn’t this bother you?” I asked, pushing away bits of dead fish, the smell overwhelming.

“The ocean smells bad too, you know. Things die and rot in there all the time. Just like here.”

“I’ve been to the ocean. It doesn’t seem this fresh.”

Her laughter was musical and yet wet. I kept thinking she would begin coughing.

“It’s not so bad once you’re used to it,” she whispered, slipping closer to me and then behind me. Lips touched my shoulder, teeth grazing the skin as she trailed upward to the back of my ear.

I touched her hair, leaning back into her body as her tongue flicked over my muscles, sending chills of delight up my spine. My body quivered against hers, the back of my thighs and legs touching a long, strong scaled tail that flicked in the water, sending currents against my skin.

We floated in the water, turning to meet each other’s lips and swirling in the embrace of one another. Her kiss was cold and wet, that same slime clinging to her. She tasted of seaweed and salt, with something deeper beneath the surface that reminded me of the depths of the ocean where frightening things lurked and hunted.

Webbed fingers made their way over my skin, touching my arms and sliding to skim over the flesh of my stomach and breasts to rest near my neck, holding me against her. I snaked a hand down between us, pushing between our bodies. My legs opened, rising up to close over her hips, pushing us closer together.

The mermaid flicked her tail and pulled us beneath the water and into the heart of the tank. Within the dingy fluid, it was easy to see out. I imagine the people who came to stare at her, children tapping the glass, people throwing food inside and garbage, some succumbing to her alluring eyes and wandering just a touch too close…

Her hand touched my cheek, turning my face back to hers. The black eyes stared into mine before she found my mouth again, filling me with life giving air before her teeth bit down on my lip, tasting blood that made her eyes grow wide with hunger and neeck. Small bites went down my neck and to my breasts, clammy hands cupping them to massage and pinch with each tiny nip she gave.

My lips parted, bubbles moving up towards the surface of the tank as a moan escaped me. It echoed through the water, bumping against the sides and then dying around us. Her mouth wandered deeper, making me twist and whimper at each bloody bite she left along my stomach and hips until she wandered over my inner thigh.

Fingers tangled with her hair, pulling her closer to me, hips moving. I saw her grin, her knowing look as she waited, mouth hovering over me where I wanted her most.

“Please,” I moaned in the water, releasing more air so that I had little left. Her smirk told me she knew that and she lowered her mouth to my slit.

It instantly brought a cry from me as her bony and hard mouth explored, teeth teasing and weirdly solid tongue flicking over the sensitive flesh. I wrapped my legs around her shoulders, keeping her pulled against me as she played my body as an instrument, each sound deliberately curated and brought forth with skilled and expert movement.

My sound moved through her tank, her mouth drawing from me the symphony of pleasure I had not heard in decades. Pressure built within me, rising in waves, mimicking the ocean that lived and breathed within her. As water breaking on the shore, I screamed, twisted and shattering beneath her mouth, pulse racing with the rush of release.

I tasted myself on her lips when she embraced me again, giving me the essence of air as only her people could. My fingers moved over her body, sliding down to the opening tucked within her scales. She nodded, whimpering in the water, a musical sound I barely heard but understood within my soul.

The mermaid began to cry, or perhaps it was singing, beautiful music of tiny whispered moans and great screaming groans of joy and delight as I plunged my fingers into her, thrusting forward to match her bucking hips that pushed her tail wildly against me. I slowed, circling the opening teasingly, smirking as I watched the desperation in her eyes.

My fingers moved in, first two and then three, pushing more and more as she opened me, revealing the pearl within that brought ecstasy with every caress. I didn’t notice the crowd that had gathered around us, or the shadows moving around the tank. She smirked, arching back against me, nails raking over my skin to make deep cuts. Blood slipped from my wounds and into the water, continuing the frenzy she felt. A final melodious scream echoed through the tank and seemed to erupt outward so that those outside could hear her cry of release.

She trembled against me, quivering in my arms as we floated. I kissed her throat, trailing up to her jaw. A hint of movement caught my eyes, drawing me back to the present where the carnival had gathered. My eyes blinked, surprise showing. Gently I released her and kicked up towards the surface of the water.

The manager of the carnival smiled at me. “I knew it.”

I flushed, the mermaid rising beside me. “Can we keep her?” Her chin rested on my shoulder, hands holding my upper arms.

“I… came to free you,” I said, turning my head to look at her.

Her brows furrowed. “I don’t want to be free.”

The manager laughed, lifting my dress from the ground and setting it on the stairs for me. “We can keep her.”

“Wait… I’m not…”

The group laughed. “What do you think that besides a show?”

I blinked at the amusement on his face, at the laughter coming from the mermaid. She kissed my cheek. “I’m so glad you came for me, Guardian. We’re going to have so much fun.”
